Since SAMs Club visually displays the cost per unit on its shelves, you can quickly do a cost comparison while comparing cost to your local grocery store. I was thinking about starting a membership at SAMs Club and I compared unit cost. Surprisingly, I found that cost was about the same as buying at my local grocer on 90 percent of everything at SAMs Club while keeping in mind shelf life, gas to drive, distance, time etc. I decided not to start a membership at SAMs club since it would only be beneficial for a family of 4 while looking at the other 10 percent of useable items where savings can be realized. My family size is 3. The other 10 percent if items where savings could be realize are not popular items in my household.. Don’t forget to keep in mind the membership fee, especially if it is $100 per year.
