Alternative approach:

1) Find a good used car on the internet & pay w/ a rewards credit card. Find a good honest independent mechanic.

2) Have only liability insurance (PL/PD) & drive very carefully. Take back roads & avoid rush hour traffic like the plague. And slow down...

3) Have the largest deductible & largest liability limits available.

4) Treat insurance as something you never want to use, but value greatly.

Don - you're right. You can save more by switching to regular collision. But bundling insurance policies will also reveal savings. The point is to call your insurance agent and start asking questions about what will work for that particular company.

Thanks so much for your comment and suggestion.

Raising your deductible will not lower your premium very much. Switching to regular collision with the same deductible will save you enough to pay for a claim within two years. Check with the lady that handles your insurance questions.
